Tis the Season to be Jolly! #2Images from my priest sketchbook for the whole month of December!
Whenever I travel, be it car, plane, train, I take time to draw a priest in my small sketchbook. The drawings are based off of photographs that I found in an old catholic school yearbook when I lived in Chicago, Illinois.

My painting, “It’s a Magical World where Everything is Enchanted,” was recently selected for the Hotel 718 development project in Brooklyn, NY. (in connection with the Brooklyn Arts Council)Information below:”Brooklyn-based real estate development company, V3 Hotels, owners of Hotel 718, a 128 room boutique hotel currently under construction at 231 Duffield Street, Brooklyn, NY, partnered with Brooklyn Arts Council to solicit local Brooklyn artists to submit original works to be showcased in the new hotel. Original works will be featured throughout the hotel’s lobby and corridors. We received a tremendous response to our call for submissions, over 660 in all. In the end, 78 artworks by 60 artists were purchased by the hotel. CLICK HERE to visit our online gallery of works on display in the hotel.”

My father, Terence O’Brien, published a biography about his fifteen year career as a circus performer. Close But No Cigar- A Street Urchin’s Tale is available at most online bookstores now.

“Terry is a young lad who spends his aimless childhood roaming the streets of Boston during the Second World War, engaging in childhood fantasies to escape an unstable family environment. During his adolescent and high school years, Terry discovers the art of juggling, which becomes his passion and his business, leading him into unusual situations. Foreign and domestic travel dominates Terry’s young adult life with academic pursuits in Germany, France and Ireland, where more adventure abounds with a tour of Ireland as a performer with Duffy Circus. Misadventure follows Terry to Washington where, as a Naval officer, he becomes a linguist at the National Security Agency, and meets his wife - an analyst. The two “spooks” do the improbable and run away with the circus, spending fifteen years trouping around North America while raising a family.”

A priest drawing from my sketchbook.
I have made it a habit to draw a priest portrait whenever I travel. The drawings are based off of photographs that I found in an old catholic school yearbook in Chicago, Illinois.
