I completed a new painting recently…“Here it comes hippity hoppity (Where All Your Dreams Will Come True!!!)”Acrylic paint on canvas, 84x84”  This painting is for an upcoming exhibition at Salem Artworks (Salem, NY) entitled… PLASTIC! Curated by the artist Fernando Orellana. “Majestic waterfalls of multi-colored polymers framed by rollingmeadows of glistening fiberglass. Distant oceans of rubber duckies,barbie dollies, and toy soldiers plume in tides crashing onto siliconebeaches. Totems of Tupperware, bottle caps, and plastic dishesspiraling towards the manufactured heavens. As endless streams ofphotons etch specters on to light sensitive celluloid surfaces. Breathin your daily carbon monoxide cocktail, delivered in such wonderfulflavors of translucent shopping bags. Plastic! Wonderful, wonderfulplastic. Tomorrow we sail off into the iridescent horizon, on floatingislands of automobile tires and inflatable mattresses.”“The visions within the exhibition Plastic! will focus on celebratingthe artificial. The non-organic. The fabricated. The polymer. Theartists in the exhibition all work with materials or ideas outside ofthe sustainable, or the ecologically driven. Title: Babe in Moor; 30” x 22”; Dry pastel on paper This is another piece that was recently photographed. (Thank you Tiffany Smith) A few years ago I was throwing around the idea of doing large pastel drawings of baby dolls. But doll imagery can be really tricky if it is not handled correctly. In most cases the work ends up looking cliche… like images of flowers or clowns. It is a tough subject matter to use.  But for all intents and purposes, I went ahead anyway to see what would happen. I think the drawing has good energy but…. it just doesn’t quite work.
